So today I think I will try to get a few posts out. Maybe one of them will be about mothers, but we will see. Personally I think that every day is Mother's day.
Anyways a while back I got to go to the basketball game of several of my sister-in-laws at American Heritage school in American Fork, UT. What was difficult about the day was that the game was action packed and the lighting was low. So after some help from John Norling, I was able to get the exposures I was looking for. Even though most of the pictures were dark, John helped me realize that Lightroom would brighten them up for me. So here are some exposures before I shot in Raw, while in Raw, and After the edits. I might even show the ones I tried to edit in LR that were in the Jpeg setting.

Michelle's first attempts at taking action shots in doors. It's not too bad, but we weren't happy with the motion blur. |
What the same picture looks like after being edited in light room ( hereto for known as LR) |
Fun shot, but blurry :-( |
Jennis looking big and bad |
After a phone call to the Zen master of photography, he suggested that I change my shutter speed and crank of the ISO. This picture and the next few shots are results of that change. Still in JPEG |
I had to play around with the settings, but the faster the shutter speed the darker the shots |
Here is the last Jpeg I took from the afternoon. Not bad but blurry and dark |
This is what was produced after using the light correct function in LR. It's a little blue and a little odd looking too. |
One out of focus William to mark the change from Jpeg to RAW |
I took this one in RAW, with the same settings that I used with the JPEG shots. |
This is what the picture is suppose to look like. A little sharper, because of the higher shutter speed and much brighter, because of LR's light correct function. I wanted to show a side by side comparison but I couldn't find the originals. I think LR writes over the originals |
The action is better here, and the light is more true to what it was like in the Gym |
Here is a good action sequence of one of the Twins going up for a layup and getting fouled |
Just like in the NBA you have to sell the foul |
Getting ready for the foul shot. Relying on her legs. |
Not bad form |
Wave bye to the ball! |
Here is another one that I didn't touch up. Look at the color of the tiles in the background and compare it to the next picture. |
Cue "We Are the Champions" (of all the girls private school indoor basketball league this side of the mountain)
